The Library is now a Passport Acceptance Agency. People of all ages seeking passports may call 401-333-2552 x2 to make an appointment. The passport agency fee is $35 per application. The application fee to the Department of State varies depending on if you are requesting a passport book or card and if you require expedited processing. The Library has forms available for FREE or they can be downloaded from Department of State website and filled out ahead of time in black ink only. Please DO NOT sign the form until you are asked to, but the Passport Acceptance Agent. PLEASE watchout for scam sites such as RushMyPassport.com. Forms are always free.
Patrons seeking passports should also bring the following:
1. Proof of US Citizenship
An original or certified copy of your Birth Certificate or a Naturalization Certificate; or an expired US passport. Be sure the birth certificate is certified and includes a filing date of less than a year from the date of birth.
2. Valid ID
A current, valid photo ID (driver’s license) is the best ID.
If you do not have a driver’s license or state ID, you must have at least two forms of secondary identification.
3. One (1) professionally developed passport photo.
4. Payment for basic passport services. The US Department of State only accepts checks or Money Orders
An Adult passport is $130.00. The expedite fee is an additional $60.00. Children 16 years and older are considered adults.
A Minor's passport fee is $100.00. The expedite fee is an additional $60.00
5. The Library's fee for processing is $35.00 per application. These can be by check or card.
Special requirements for passports for minors
Both parents must sign to apply for a passport for a minor. If both parents cannot appear in person, there is a form they can fill out and have notarized ahead of time. They must also send a copy of their license, front and back. Children must be present in order to apply for a passport.
Processing times for passports are now 6 8 weeks. Expedited processing is 2 - 3 weeks.
