The National School Climate Survey conducted by GLSEN in 2011 reported these statistics on bullying:
82% of LGBT youth had problems during the previous year with bullying about sexual orientation.
64% felt unsafe at school due to sexual orientation.
We are hard at work getting reading for all the all the fun things happening this summer! Our summer events calendar will be out soon. The summer reading kick off date is Monday, June 22nd, and that is when many of our registered programs will open for registration.
This month we celebrate Mothers everywhere. The relationships we have with our mothers can be complex at best! In teen novels, the story is often possible because the parents are absent- dead, sick, traveling, you get the picture. So much more can happen if you take the rule-enforcers out! Some of the best stories, however, explore the relationship between mother and teen, and do it oh-so-well! Check out this post from the HUB and then come on in and check out some of these books!
