You may have noticed a few new faces in our department recently! Rachael and Steven have moved on to full time professional positions in other states and while we are thrilled for their success, it did leave us feeling a little lonely at the reference desk. Don't worry though; we have added two new team members to fulfill your information needs!
Valentines season doesn't click with everyone. Maybe you're between relationships, have suffered a breakup, or just aren't into the whole lovey-dovey, materialistic holiday. If you're trying to avoid all the romance getting thrown in your face, we have some great books that eschew romantic relationships for friendship.
There’s always something happening at the Cumberland Library, and that won’t change in the new year! You can look forward to new and different events every month, but there are several great core programs that we’ll be offering on a regular basis. If you’re looking for a way to get to know more people in your community and grow creatively or intellectually, we’ve got programs for you!
Here are the events you can expect to see every month in 2017…
Every Dish Tells a Story: A club for people who love to cook
Writing a hand-written letter seems pretty quaint, but receiving hand-written mail is a wonderful treat. So it's no surprise lots of people have tried to keep the art alive in an age of texting, messaging, and email. Many holidays exist around the world to celebrate and encourage letter-writing, and January is no different! We celebrate Letter Writing Week the second week of January.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all of our patrons!
May your holiday season be full of loved ones, good food, fun, and relaxation, and may your new year be a healthy and happy one!
It’s not too late to win prizes for all the reading you did this year! The Cumberland Library 2016 Reading Challenge is still going on – turn in your form by December 20th and you will still be eligible to win!
If you would like to review the details of the reading challenge you can find them here.
The grand prize is a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and our other prizes include gift certificates to CinemaWorld, Dave’s Marketplace, and MaryLou’s - don’t miss out!
The Teen Center has been open for a couple of months now and it's been so great to see you all visiting to game, make crafts and art, jam with friends, and just chill out. We're adding some finishing touches to really personalize the room and make it yours: wall art and more games!
I have some ideas but your input is more important. Take this survey (teens only) to give feedback on how we can further decorate the Teen Center. I need to submit ideas to our Friends group by December 1, though, so don't delay!
Now that September is here again, are you feeling nostalgic for your school days? Wishing for new pencils and notebooks, new backpacks and new ideas?
Don’t worry: your learning days are far from over! The library has so many resources that can help you be a lifelong student; here are just a few…
We have painted walls, lights, glass in the windows, and a ceiling! The end is in sight. Work on the floor will begin this weekend, and then it will be time for the finishing touches. We appreciate your patience over the summer as we've worked on this space! We promise you will love it when it's done!
Our renovation is well underway! The room has been framed and sheetrocked, and our new lighting configuration should be going in soon! Most of the furniture we've ordered for the room has arrived and I can't wait to take it out of storage! The colors have been decided, and now I'm hard at work picking out a sign that will look just right. Remember, the Community Room is open as our temporary teen space in the meantime. Come on by to hang out!
