There’s always something happening at the Cumberland Library, and that won’t change in the new year! You can look forward to new and different events every month, but there are several great core programs that we’ll be offering on a regular basis. If you’re looking for a way to get to know more people in your community and grow creatively or intellectually, we’ve got programs for you!
Here are the events you can expect to see every month in 2017…
Every Dish Tells a Story: A club for people who love to cook
1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm
99% of all homemade recipes have a story behind them-even those that came out of a cookbook and are now a family favorite! This club aims to share the joy of not only sharing recipes, but of telling the stories behind the dishes you love most. Enjoy a monthly potluck meal with us and take home the recipe for a new story in your life. Members will make a dish and bring copies of the actual recipe to share. Recipes can come from cookbooks, family recipes, the internet, or can be an original masterpiece!
2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm
Do you love to craft? This new group provides space for participants to come together and hang out while crafting! Learn something new or get some ideas on how to finish that project that has had you stuck. Maybe you just want to share the creative excitement of crafting with others. Whether you bullet journal, scrapbook, knit, zentangle, crochet, or any one of a million other crafts, we want you! You provide your supplies, we provide the space-let the fun begin!
Cumberland Library Coding Club
2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00pm
You asked for it and here it is! Each session will include a new lesson for coding beginners and time for everyone to practice, code, and collaborate. Participants can bring their own device and there is a limited number of library computers available for this program. Space is limited and registration is required, so click here to reserve your seat today!
3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm
If you love the internet, you probably know TED! Join Rachael to watch and discuss some of the most popular TED Talks working their way around the web. Be part of the movement and join us as we consider powerful ideas and learn more about the world around us. Each month we’ll be exploring a different topic: to see what we’ll be discussing this month, check our Eventkeeper page.
You may already be familiar with the monthly Writer’s Workshop at the library – now Heather MacIntyre has started another monthly program for writers in addition to the workshop! The Writer’s Haven is a two-hour writing session on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 6:00pm. Benefit from working with other local writers and bouncing ideas off each other! The Writer’s Haven, like the workshop, is for people who are serious about writing. Unlike the workshop, however, the Haven is not a group for critiquing; it's for writing only.
And don’t forget our longstanding book discussion groups! The daytime group meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 10:00 and the evening group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30pm. For a full list of book group titles, stop by our circulation desk.
For more information about these and other upcoming programs, check out our Eventkeeper page, call us, or stop by the library!
