Introduction
In an effort to meet the public’s reading and information needs and to ensure the safety of patrons and staff, the Cumberland Public Library has adopted the following behavior guidelines. Unacceptable behavior will result in patrons being asked to desist or leave the building.
Any activity or behavior that is disruptive, hinders the use of the library, or jeopardizes the safety of the patrons or employees, inside or outside, is strictly prohibited.
To maintain an atmosphere conducive to library use, we ask that patrons refrain from engaging in the following behaviors or activities.
Disruptive behavior may include, but is not limited to:
- Running or using sporting equipment
- Physical or verbal assault of patrons or staff
- Talking above acceptable noise level, carrying on sustained conversations, or use of profane language
- Carrying or possessing a weapon
- Abuse or destruction of library property
- Children under age 12 may not be left unsupervised. In any event, parents are responsible for the behavior of their children in the library
- The use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal substances are not permitted inside the library.
- Use of electronic equipment, such as cell phones, may be limited to certain areas of the library and must not interfere with other library users.
- Proper dress is required, including the wearing of shirts and shoes.
- Solicitation is prohibited.
- Animals are not permitted inside the library, except service animals assisting patrons.
